Monthly Emails @ Groover Labs

(Standing in for Parker this week, and dipping my toe into Discourse…)

Hi everybody!

In this email:

  • July Summary
  • Announcements
  • Info for Members
  • Info for New Events
  • Info for Recurring Events
  • Welcome New Members
  • General Reminders

In July

We added 10 new members in July, which ties our second-highest membership growth month since January. July has historically been a busier month at Groover Labs, based on building traffic, conference room use, website traffic, and new members. Things may slow down some in August as parents prepare for back to school. We’re excited to welcome Metropolitan Energy to the community. They specialize in developing resource efficiency, environmental health, and economic vitality in KC and central Kansas. Also new to the membership is Wichita’s first community-supported non-profit newspaper The Beacon. We’ve also added a CPA, an attorney, a full-stack software engineer, and a property manager.

Announcements

Member Lunch

The next member lunch is Friday, August 11. We’ll send details as soon as we finalize plans.

Discourse with Slack Integration

At the end of July, we rolled out our Discourse forum with Slack integration to some of our regular users. More and more of you have asked recently for a tool to help members communicate, as well as some type of member directory. Discourse and Slack will serve both purposes. We’re ironing out the kinks before we roll it out to the entire membership, which we hope to do by the end of August.

Holiday Hours

Groover Labs will be closed on Labor Day, 9/4. Staff will not be present, but dedicated desk, private office, and studio members have 24/7 access to the building.

Here’s the August/September Email:
Hi everybody!

In this email:

  • August Summary

  • Welcome New Members
  • General Reminders

NOTE: We will be closed on Monday, September 4, to observe Labor Day. Those with 24/7 access are welcome to work in the building, but we won’t have staff here.

In August

Congratulations, everybody! We survived August, the worst month of the year. Bring on September! We added four new members in August. Most were additions to teams like The Beacon, Metro Energy, NXTUS, and Curo Technology. I’ve included them at the bottom of this email.

Discourse with Slack Integration

You should have received an invitation or email from Tracy to join our Discourse with Slack Integration platforms. We’re limited by how many people we can invite at one time through the platforms, so we had to send a follow-up email with sign-up links in the text. When you sign up, make sure to join the Slack #events-food channel. Whenever we have large-scale events in the venue or we have leftover food in the lobby, we’ll @channel everyone in the #events-food channel.

Spotify

You may have noticed a difference in the music lately. We changed over from Amazon Music to Spotify. We also created a Slack channel (#music) where you can post songs or playlists you’d like to hear. Noel is curating a community list, so feel free to drop in and add some songs. She is our resident DJ.

devICT Lightning Talks Moved to Third Thursday

We’re testing a new day for devICT’s monthly lightning talks. Since devICT, a non-profit group for software developers, already meets at Groover Labs every Thursday morning from 7-10 a.m. for Code & Coffee, we thought we’d try hosting their monthly Lightning Talks on the third Thursday since so many devICT members will already be here.
